Bullfrog Paddlesports Safety Tips
Stay safe, paddle smart, and have fun on the water!
1. Always Wear Your Life Jacket
Even strong swimmers should wear a properly fitted life vest at all times. It’s not just smart — it’s required.
2. Know the Weather Before You Go
Check the forecast before heading out. Wind, waves, and storms can turn quickly — if it looks iffy, wait it out.
3. Paddle in Safe Zones
Stick to designated launch areas and avoid boat traffic. Stay close to shore, especially if you’re new to paddling.
4. Watch the Wind
Windy conditions can make it tough to paddle back. If it’s at your back on the way out, expect a workout coming in!
5. Stay Hydrated and Sun-Safe
Bring water, wear sunscreen, and protect your eyes with sunglasses or a hat. The sun reflects off the water — double exposure!
6. Bring Your Phone in a Dry Bag
For emergencies, it’s smart to have your phone. Keep it dry and handy — not at the bottom of your canoe.
7. Don’t Paddle Alone
It’s more fun (and safer) with a buddy. If you do go solo, let someone know your plan and expected return time.
8. Dress for the Water, Not Just the Weather
Conditions can change fast. Quick-dry clothing and layers are best — cotton stays wet and can get chilly.
9. Avoid Alcohol While Paddling
Save the drinks for after the paddle. Staying alert and balanced is key on the water.
10. Respect Nature & Leave No Trace
Don’t disturb wildlife, stay off private docks, and pack out everything you bring in.
